Overview
Mendix and Siemens Mendix is used by 4000+ customers across all industries - from banking, financial services and insurance to public sector and retail - but also has a strong focus on manufacturing since it was acquired by Siemens in 2019. Mendix is the low-code platform of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio and comes with pre-built integrations to other Xcelerator products, like Teamcenter PLM, Opcenter MES and Insights Hub IoT (formerly known as MindSphere). Interestingly, after the acquisition, Siemens also started using Mendix internally. Four years later, they now have 580+ apps in production - all running on AWS - with 300+ more on the way. Mendix and AWS Mendix is fully cloud-native, with containerized apps that can be deployed in a public cloud, private cloud, on premise and even on edge devices. The cloud deployment options include a highly automated and fully managed public cloud, called Mendix Cloud, which has run on AWS since 2016. Customers who prefer to deploy apps in their own AWS account can do that with the Mendix on Amazon EKS Reference Deployment . Over 75% of Mendix customers run their apps on Mendix Cloud, their AWS private cloud or a combination of both. As a Siemens business, Mendix is also a key part of the Strategic Collaboration Agreement (SCA) Siemens signed with AWS in 2021. As a result, Mendix now has a dedicated AWS development team, which aims to make Mendix the fastest and easiest way to build apps on AWS. This has resulted in a rich set of Mendix connectors to 20+ AWS services and an AWS Workshop , which teaches AWS builders how to use them and get started with Mendix for free. Mendix for SAP Mendix has been SAP's main partner for low-code development since 2017, and that partnership continues to this day. Many customers use Mendix as an innovation layer on top of multiple SAP instances, as well as non-SAP systems, rather than customizing SAP itself. Some are still on SAP ECC and preparing to migrate to cloud and/or SAP S/4HANA. Others are already on S/4HANA and using Mendix to "keep the core clean". Common use cases for Mendix are things which are typically hard to do in SAP, like native mobile apps with offline capability and apps for external business partners, like customers, suppliers and logistics service providers. Mendix supports the latest SAP Fiori design theme, called SAP Horizon, but for external users, customers often prefer to use their own, company-branded design system. In short, Mendix is often used to make SAP more accessible and user-friendly. Mendix can co-exist with SAP's own development technologies, such as SAP Build, Fiori, CAP and RAP, but it has three important benefits as a separate innovation layer on top of SAP. Firstly, it's an all-in-one platform, covering all use cases and DevOps activities in a single platform instead of a collection of tools with varying levels of integration. Secondly, it's all low-code, rather than a mix of low-code tools with high-code tools, which will still be needed for many use cases. What do you like best about the product?
Being able to simulate a process rather than relying solely on what we expect to happen in production. For a growing apparel business, having that visibility is useful.
What do you dislike about the product?
There’s definitely a learning curve, particularly when getting into the more detailed parts of the modelling. Some changes also require a bit of reworking before the model reflects what we actually want.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It gives us a way to examine production processes before making changes physically. That helps us identify potential issues earlier and make production decisions with more information behind them.

What do you like best about the product?
What stood out to me was the simulation side. It gave us a way to explore different possibilities before committing to changes, which was useful when we were working through the details of an ongoing project. There was a bit of a learning curve in getting comfortable with the way everything was organised, so I had to spend some time figuring out the workflow.
What do you dislike about the product?
The project is still ongoing, but Tecnomatix has given us another way to evaluate processes and make more informed design decisions. For a growing creative business, having that additional visibility has been useful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As the work at Mykelis Campbell has grown, having a better way to think through design processes and different scenarios has become increasingly important. We used Tecnomatix as part of that process to look at how changes could affect the wider workflow rather than making decisions in isolation.

What do you like best about the product?
I like having something visual to work from when discussing production. It makes some of the conversations around changes much easier to get into.
What do you dislike about the product?
It takes some time to get the right level of detail into the process. We’ve had to narrow down what we actually want to validate rather than trying to cover everything at once.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We’re using it to validate production-line scenarios before making physical changes. For a small-batch business, that gives us another opportunity to think through the process before involving our manufacturing partners.

What do you like best about the product?
The work with Tecnomatix has been around digital twin and virtual manufacturing, which has given us a different way to look at production rather than relying entirely on assumptions from the shop floor. I’ve found that particularly useful when thinking through how things could work as we continue to grow.
What do you dislike about the product?
It’s still an ongoing project, and there have definitely been moments where we’ve had to go back and clarify what we actually need the model to show. That part has taken some back-and-forth, especially because our processes are still evolving. But that’s also the reality of building a manufacturing operation while the business itself is growing. So far, the work has been useful for giving us a more structured view of where we’re heading.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
When we started looking more seriously at how Majic could scale production, I wanted a better way of understanding what different manufacturing scenarios might look like before making decisions on the physical side. We’re a growing food brand, so that becomes more important as volumes and processes change.

What do you like best about the product?
What I’ve appreciated is that the work hasn’t felt like a completely hands-off software implementation. There has been some back and forth around how we wanted things to work for our particular setup, and I’ve had to clarify a few requirements along the way. That was probably the one slightly frustrating part, but it also meant the process was being adapted rather than treated as a one-size-fits-all solution.
What do you dislike about the product?
The project is still ongoing, so I wouldn’t describe everything as finished yet. Even so, having a more organised approach to production planning has made it easier for me to look at the operational side of the business alongside the creative work. For a growing fashion brand, that visibility is useful, and I’m interested to see how much further we can take it as the project develops.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As Seren has grown, keeping production planning organised has become something I’ve had to pay much more attention to. We started working with Tecnomatix to bring more structure to that side of the business and to give us a clearer view of how our production processes fit together.
