Terraform on Ubuntu 26.04 Hardened is a preconfigured virtual machine image that combines the power of Terraform with a hardened Ubuntu 26.04 LTS base built to industry recognized security standards. This image is purpose built for DevOps teams, SREs, cloud engineers, and infrastructure architects who need to provision infrastructure as code (IaC) from a secure, audited, production ready instance without spending hours on manual configuration or applying security baselines from scratch.
The instance ships with Terraform preinstalled and connected to the official HashiCorp repository, alongside a full security toolchain: auditd with CIS aligned audit rules (monitoring changes to etc passwd, sudoers, sudo execution, kernel module loading, and SSH configuration), ClamAV with automatic signature updates and scheduled scanning, OpenSCAP with SSG (SCAP Security Guide) content for compliance evaluation, and Lynis for hardening audits with a quantifiable hardening index. vim and tmux are also included for secure interactive administration and persistent session management.

Usage instructions
Thank you for purchasing the Terraform on Ubuntu 26.04 Hardened. This section explains how to launch, access, and verify your hardened instance.
Step 1. Launch the instance
Deploy this AMI from the AWS Marketplace console using your preferred instance type. During launch, select an existing SSH key pair or create a new one. This key is required to access the instance, as password authentication is disabled for security.
Step 2. Configure the security group
In the security group settings, allow inbound SSH traffic on port 22 only from your trusted IP address. Do not open other ports unless required by your workload. The UFW firewall inside the instance is already configured to deny all incoming traffic except SSH port 22.
Step 3. Connect to the instance
After the instance is running, connect using SSH with the default user ubuntu and your private key:
ssh -i /path/to/your-key.pem ubuntu@your-instance-public-ip
