The application runs in containers. Zammad, its database, its search engine and its caches are managed by Docker Compose on the instance, so application updates can be delivered without replacing the AMI. The database, search and real-time services run on an isolated internal network with no port exposed to the internet.

Your helpdesk is installed and ready when the installer finishes. There is no setup wizard to complete. The database, the search index and your administrator account are created for you, and the sign-in details are shown once, at the end of installation. The administrator password is generated for your instance alone.

The installer checks that the instance has enough memory before it starts, and adds swap space automatically, so a t3a.small runs the full stack including search.

Use your own domain name with a free SSL certificate. One command obtains the certificate, renews it automatically, and redirects HTTP to HTTPS. The instance needs only three inbound ports: 22, 80 and 443. This image does not include a mail server, so Zammad sends and receives through a mail provider that you configure.
